In this tutorial, we would like to present an exercise focused on coordinating movement and object manipulation in black light theatre. The video demonstrates how performers can animate visible props on a dark stage so that they appear to move independently. Through controlled gestures, precise timing, and careful positioning, the performer creates the illusion that the object has its own movement and presence while the puppeteer remains hidden.
This activity introduces participants to the visual illusion techniques used in black light theatre, where performers dressed in black operate in a dark environment illuminated by ultraviolet light. Under these conditions, fluorescent or brightly coloured objects become clearly visible while black clothing blends into the background, making the performer effectively invisible.
