Mask Manipulation Part 2

In this tutorial, we would like to present an exercise focused on movement, coordination, and visual storytelling in black light theatre. The video demonstrates how performers can animate visible elements on a dark stage so that they appear to move independently. By carefully controlling gestures, timing, and positioning, the performers guide the movement of the objects while remaining hidden from the audience.

This activity highlights one of the key principles of black light theatre, where performers dressed in black work on a dark stage illuminated by ultraviolet light. Under these conditions, fluorescent or brightly coloured elements become visible while black clothing blends into the background, creating the illusion that objects float or move on their own. This technique allows performers to communicate ideas and emotions through movement and visual effects rather than spoken dialogue, which is a defining feature of black light theatre performances.
