Mask Manipulation Part 1

In this tutorial, we would like to present an exercise focused on mask manipulation and character expression in black light theatre. The video demonstrates how a mask can be animated through controlled movement so that it appears alive and expressive on stage. By carefully coordinating gestures, direction, and rhythm, the performer gives personality to the mask while remaining hidden from the audience.

This activity introduces participants to the role of masks and character creation in visual theatre forms such as black light theatre and commedia-inspired performance. When used in a dark environment with selective lighting, the mask becomes the main visual focus while the performer blends into the background. Through exercises like this, participants develop skills in body language, timing, and non-verbal storytelling, which are essential for creating clear and engaging visual characters on stage.
