Episode 5: Objects as Meaning: Visual Storytelling in Black Light Theatre

This episode focuses on objects as active carriers of meaning rather than decorative props. In the reduced visual field of black light theatre, a rope, circle, shape or fragment can become a border, connection, trap, memory, force or emotion depending on its movement, timing and relationship to performers and space. This makes object work particularly useful for approaching personal or socially sensitive themes without requiring direct disclosure. Participants can create symbolic distance while still expressing complex experiences. The episode also introduces visual literacy, encouraging groups to select objects carefully, use them consistently and test whether audiences can read the intended image through short, focused scene-making exercises.
