Episode 11: Preparing the Stage: Building a Clear Visual Space

This practical episode explains how to prepare a space for a black light theatre scene. The stage is treated as an active visual system in which darkness, contrast, focus and depth determine whether the audience can read the action. A professional theatre is not required; a classroom, workshop room or community hall can work if it has a clearly defined performance area and a dark, matte, non-reflective background. Facilitators should remove bright distractions, visible cables, labels, bottles and reflective surfaces, then organise the image in foreground, middle ground and background layers. Beginners are advised to start with one backdrop, a limited number of glowing elements and one short visual action.
